What to include on an engagement card

• Names of the couple and both sets of parents
• Date, time and venue with the full address
• The function name your family uses — sagai, roka, ring ceremony, nischayathartham — it’s your card, use your words
• Lunch or dinner note, so guests know what to expect
• An RSVP name and phone number
• A line about the blessings of elders, if that’s your family’s style

Wording tips for the first invite

• Traditional: “With the blessings of our parents, we request the honour of your presence at the engagement of…”
• Warm and modern: “She said yes! Join us as we make it official.”
• Add a Hindi line — सगाई की शुभकामनाएँ, or the couple’s names in Devanagari script.
• If the wedding date is already fixed, a small “Save the date” line for the shaadi is a lovely touch.

Keep the tone a touch more formal than the sangeet card and a touch warmer than a business letter — that middle ground is exactly where engagement invites live.
